5 Reasons Why Disney Cruise Line Is Worth The Price!

My husband and I are cruise people! My next cruise vacation is booked before I’m even off of my current ship. So, when I said it’s time for us to take sail on the Disney Cruise Line I didn’t understand why he wasn’t on board. (Pun intended.)

Luckily, I managed to maneuver my way into a cruise for just us gals. My Mom, 16-year old teen daughter and I sailed away to the Bahamas over spring break on the Disney Dream.

Now, I can explain to my husband why it’s worth the premium pricing to always sail with Disney.

1. Disney Ships Have Character

Literally! All the Disney Cruise Line ships have many of your favorite characters. You can visit with the sensational six, get up close and personal with Anna & Elsa, enjoy character dining experience at Royal Court Royal Tea. There are even more characters on special sailings with Marvel or Star Wars day at sea. It might be the only time you’re able to snap a pic with Minnie wearing her swim day best!

2. Fireworks at Sea

Disney Cruise Line is the only cruise line that offers fireworks at night out on the high seas. On our Bahamas cruise, we had a Pirate Party Night. I was surprised to see Guests young and old brought appropriate Pirate Attire. Just in case, your eye patch didn’t make it on board you’ll receive one in your cabin at turndown. Once you're appropriately dressed for the festive evening, you’ll order dinner from a menu resembling an old treasure map. Then it’s time to make your way up to the pool deck to see all your favorite characters, including Captain Jack Sparrow, ready to swashbuckle and save our ship from Captain Hook and his merry band of pirates. You’ll dance away the night, play interactive games with the characters, until it’s time for the big finale and fireworks are shot over the bough. It’s the best deck party anywhere at sea.

3. Disney Broadway Style Entertainment

Disney Cruise Line has raised the bar on traditional cruise ship entertainment. The ships have original Broadway-style musical shows featuring your some of your favorite Disney stories like Beauty & the Beast, Frozen and Tangled. These productions are unique to Disney Cruise Line and you can’t see them anywhere else, even at the Disney theme parks. You’ll be clapping along to every “Happily Ever After.” If Broadway shows are not your style, you can take in first run Disney movies. Grab your popcorn, candy and soda from the pool deck and head inside to the air-conditioned theater to watch Black Panther or the latest Star Wars movie. (The shows vary based on the ship. Be sure to ask your goMagic agent which shows are on your sailing.)

4. Castaway Cay Private Island

I'm usually not a fan of the cruise ship private islands and tend to treat them more like "sea days," treasuring the relative quiet of the pool deck. Castaway Cay is the exception to my rule. In fact, I think other cruise lines have tried and failed to re-create the magic (no pun intended). It is THE BEST private island I have ever visited.

I signed up for Castaway Cay 5K FUN RUN (I am emphasizing the FUN part of the run) which goes around the island. A FREE way to earn yourself some special souvenir swag, get unique character photo opps and earn a certificate of participation signed by the boss Mouse himself. Plus, you get to see parts of the island many other passengers won’t explore.

Not ready to get out of bed early enough for the fun run? Once you decide to head to the Island, it’s right off the dock. No need to take a tender. Be sure to have your camera for your Castaway Cay character photos. The lines were much shorter than on board the ship.

There is something for everyone to do weather it’s relax on the beach while soaking in the sun with an adult island beverage, getting that couples message while listening to the waves or sliding down the two water slides at Pelican Plunge. It’s all a short walk from your ship’s stateroom.

5. The Kids Clubs

My 16-year old daughter enjoyed Vibe, the teens-only space that is part nightclub and part sundeck; but it was me who fell in love with Disney’s Oceaneer Club. Sadly, it was reserved for Disney Cruise Line passengers between the ages of three and 12 and I didn’t get to stay for long. The only adults allowed are the very cool Kids Activities Cast Members who are there to supervise your children while you can take in time for yourself at the spa, the adult only pool or a nice dinner at Palos or Remy (adult only dining). Kids will be able immerse themselves in several different themed entertainment and visit with characters including, the gang from Toy Story in Andy’s room, Pixie Hollow and Tinker Bell, the Star Wars’ Millennium Falcon or get a visit with Captain America at the Marvel’s Avengers Academy. (Themed areas vary by ship. Your goMagic vacation planner can answer any questions you have about what youth clubs are available on your sailing.)

Bonus: Beverages are included

If you’re used to always purchasing the beverage package so you can enjoy your cokes, lemonade or bottled water on your cruise line of choice, SURPRISE! They’re all included on Disney Cruise Line. You can enjoy all the non-alcoholic beverages you’d like throughout the ship and on Castaway Cay.
